The Kamchatka Expedition Part 6 - Last few days in Russia

The Kamchatka Expedition Part 6 - Last few days in Russia

Autumn is arriving here in Spain and another expedition is fast approaching so I thought it's about time I finished this Kamchatka blog before the Patagonia expedition arrives.

The Kamchatka Expedition Part 5 - The escape and a very long bus ride

It's now summer in Andalucia and the heat of August has made me decide it's time to venture back to the freezer known as Kamchatka to cool myself down and try and get this story finished.

The red palm weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineus)

Many times I've stood next to the palm tree in the garden and thought the tree sounded alive. Little did I know it was actually being eaten alive.

Vegetable garden is up and running

Vegetable garden is up and running

Well the veggie garden is up and running again. We don't have a huge selection of veggies growing, we have to keep it on a small scale because we don't have the time needed to look after them, but what we do grow is pretty good at looking after it'self most the time.

Lounging at the Altar of the Patagonian Mountain Gods

It’s a tough trek to the Cirque de los Altares in Patagonia. The outcome is never certain. Raging rivers, complex moraines, huge glaciers and of course the constant battering from the prevailing westerly winds provide the main obstacles.

Kamchatka is somewhere I heard about many, many, many years ago, saw some photos and thought wow I'd love to go there. Little did I know that one day I would get the opportunity.

An incredible encounter with Golden Eagles

I had the most amazing Golden Eagle encounters yesterday. I was driving up on the Ventura track to extract some clients who had been on a 4 day winter mountaineering trip in the Sierra Nevada
