Trip report, personal thoughts and recommendations after this years expedition to the Patagonian Icecap
Autumn is arriving here in Spain and another expedition is fast approaching so I thought it's about time I finished this Kamchatka blog before the Patagonia expedition arrives.
It's now summer in Andalucia and the heat of August has made me decide it's time to venture back to the freezer known as Kamchatka to cool myself down and try and get this story finished.
Here we are onto part 4 of the expedition to ski in Kamchatka
A lot of what is written in these Kamchatka Expedition trip reports has been taken from the notes and diary I kept.
This report from our Kamchatka expedition is mostly photos as I think they can tell the story much better than myself.
As most of you are aware a year ago we left to go on an expedition to Kamchatka to attempt to ski and snowboard the highest active volcano in Eurasia
Many times I've stood next to the palm tree in the garden and thought the tree sounded alive. Little did I know it was actually being eaten alive.
Well the veggie garden is up and running again. We don't have a huge selection of veggies growing, we have to keep it on a small scale because we don't have the time needed to look after them, but what we do grow is pretty good at looking after it'self most the time.
It’s a tough trek to the Cirque de los Altares in Patagonia. The outcome is never certain. Raging rivers, complex moraines, huge glaciers and of course the constant battering from the prevailing westerly winds provide the main obstacles.
A strange meeting with the incredible occelated lizard in the Alpujarras
Kamchatka is somewhere I heard about many, many, many years ago, saw some photos and thought wow I'd love to go there. Little did I know that one day I would get the opportunity.
The Quebrantahuesos (bone breaker), Gypaetus barbatus, Bearded Vulture, Lammergeier, Lammergeyer or what ever you want to call it, is one of the rarest birds in Europe.
50 years ago today my parents were married. Today is their Golden Wedding Anniversary.
I had the most amazing Golden Eagle encounters yesterday. I was driving up on the Ventura track to extract some clients who had been on a 4 day winter mountaineering trip in the Sierra Nevada

Bruno started out showing signs of lameness, over a week or so the lameness got worse. He went to the vet who took a few x-rays and diagnosed osteoarthritis. He was put on the anti-inflammatory tablets Norocarp. But Brunos lameness got worse, he cried in pain and wouldnt use his front right leg.

At the moment im reading a book called Murder in the High Himalaya by Jonathan Green. Its about a group of Tibetan refugees trying to cross the border into Nepal over the Nangpa la in 2006 and how the Chinese border guards shoot and kill.
Thought you might like to see one of the characters I met whilst in Patagonia recently. Its a White-throated Caracara (phalcoboenus albogularis).
