The day Griffon Vultures came to town

Yesterday it was stormy and forced Griffon vultures to come down in Lanjaron. They spent the night mostly on the crags opposite town. The odd one was dotted around and above town.

There is a vulture sat on the end of the ridge, seeing it still there made my decision to go and visit them. The sun was starting to come out, a breeze was picking up, I thought it won't be long before they leave.

I went to check on the Lanjaron 7 this morning after shopping. Turns out they were the Lanjaron 20 or so! As I was driving from home I could see that they had taken to the air, but I thought I could catch up to them while they were catching the thermals, so I continued on. By the time I managed to park the car I couldn't get up the hill fast enough to catch them on the other side of the ridge, so I missed the early risers.

These three were hanging out doing pre flight checks

However there were 4 late risers left, so I managed to snap a few shots of them as they decided, one by one, it was time to get up and catch up with their friends.

I had no idea that number 4 had taken off, it just suddenly appeared above my head

The wind turbines were off (not that they flew in that direction), coincidence, or on purpose, I don't know. How great it was to have these visitors spend the night here.

Pre flight checks complete and lift off
I missed number 3 because I was concentrating on number 4 but I caught number 2
Fantastic to get such views of them in Lanjaron
