Today we decided to provide ourselves with more shade outside. We recently brought a gazebo from Leroy Merlin for €36, which we have placed out in the campo with the swingchair so we can sit and watch the veggies grow with the dogs sat by our feet!! The only problem with this new purchase is it will not last once winter arrives, we get terrible wind up this valley and if something is not strong, it will be destroyed!!
Ive been sat on the roof terrace taking lots of photos of the birds recently, our regulars and those that have been returning from wintering in Africa. Im getting great views of Booted Eagles, Short-toed Eagles, Golden Eagles, Bonelli’s Eagles, Kestrels, Sparrow Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Ravens to name a few. Go take a look at Birdwatch Alpujarra’s diary to get a good update on the bird goings on here in the Alpujarras. But ive been getting rather hot, having to sit in the sun. Ive been working out ways to disguise myself but today we drove to Metal Micky our local metal worker with a scrap of paper which had a rough design on it and a few measurements. Miguel was able to interpret this drawing and designed us a gazebo in 45 minutes to the measurements we required. This will not be destroyed once the winds return. How fantastic is that, where in the UK these days can you do such a thing? We had some willow wood fencing that we lined the roof with and hey presto we now have shade in the form of a gazebo which doubles as a bird hide.
Ive spent a few hours under it this evening testing it out whilst all the bird action was kicking off. Id been looking rather obviously like a human sat on the roof for all the birds to see and scare off. So today ive been hidden enough to get some nice shots.
