My dad and many other residents from Whittington and Fisherwick have been protesting after it was revealed that Tarmac are to start quarrying at Fisherwick in Staffordshire. If Tarmac are given the go ahead it could result in more than 700 lorries thundering through the small villages every week over 16 years as they plan to remove 5.5 million tonnes of sand and gravel. A public meeting was to be held on March 4th which Tarmac pulled out of. To be kept upto date on the fight visit the Whittington and Fisherwick Parish Council website also this link will lead to a word document with more information. Click here if you would like to see the photo gallery of Whittington and Fisherwick and see what am impact 700 lorries coming through these villages would have.
In 2006 a campaign to save the Lakes & Wildlife at Fisherwick Wood from potentially devastating proposals by the operators of Elford Quarry JPE Holdings. These lakes were originally created by quarrying over 15 years ago, and being left untouched, they restored ‘naturally’ into beautiful wildlife havens.
