We had a very cold day walking up Veleta this week. We arrived at the car park to find it under snow but sunny, within minutes of leaving the car the sun disappeared behind clouds and never came out again that day. We put on snowshoes as the snow was so deep we couldn’t walk without them. In fact we never made it to the top of Veleta, the 2nd highest mountain in the Sierra Nevada, due to the poor weather that came in. The decision was made to turn around and as we made our way off the mountain it started to snow on us and we found ourselves in a whiteout. This was no problem to Richard who knows the mountains inside out.

Snowshoeing in the Sierra Nevada is great fun and enables you to get to places you cant walk to.
